SOUNDS OF FREEDOM
© 2009 Bonnie W. Daniels

Do you remember, when there was pride in our flag?
And we believed “my country, right or wrong”?
We were quick to defend her, as she defended us,
And our love for America was strong?
Do you remember, when we all joined together,
And worked to make our country great?
One nation, indivisible, seeking liberty,
And each one pulling his own weight!

CHORUS:

I want America back!
Just like she used to be!
I want to hear the sounds of freedom,
Shouting out to me!
Freedom to say what I want to say!
Freedom to pray when I want to pray!
Freedom to work and earn my way!
In the good old U.S.A.!

Do you remember, when there was prayer in our schools?
And GOD was not a dirty word?
When a new life just beginning, didn’t hang on someone’s Choice?
And terror was a threat we never heard?
Do you remember, when the truth was really true?
And a lie was a rotten, sinful shame?
What’s happened to our country, how did we go wrong?
And where do we lay the blame?

CHORUS:

I want America back!
Just like she used to be!
I want to hear the sounds of freedom,
Shouting out to me!
Freedom to say what I want to say!
Freedom to pray when I want to pray!
Freedom to work and earn my way!
In the good old U.S.A.!

BRIDGE:

We’re one nation under GOD,
And we’ve been really blessed,
We have the right to liberty,
And pursuit of happiness.
Of, by and for the people,
Our Constitution’s guarantee,
It was good for our forefathers,
And it’s good enough for me!!

CHORUS:

I want America back!
Just like she used to be!
I want to hear the sounds of freedom,
Shouting out to me!
Freedom to say what I want to say!
Freedom to pray when I want to pray!
Freedom to work and earn my way!
In the good old U.S.A.!
